Winter Garden

We planted half and half with the carrots there are seedlings and seeds in the ground.

These are the snow peas.

These are the first of the beans to start growing. Very crunchy and sweet.

Our lemons are on track.

All the seed potatoes are in. At the back of them is Capsicum and to the side is Rasberry.

Sandpit

We have been wanting to build a sandpit for Jett for a long time now, but where to put it. We wanted it tucked away somewhere out of the sun, in the backyard so when we are doing our gardening Jett was where we could see him. We decided underneath the back stairs was the perfect spot, lots of area for him to play, tucked away to the side of the house and out of the sun. So dad and the chickens started clearing the area, pulling out the shrubs and leveling out the dirt.

I ordered the sandpit sand and the truck delivered it.

We lined it with black plastic all around.

Then added all the sand.

Voila!! one new awesome sandpit for Jett in the backyard. Thanks dad (and the chickens) xoxo

Presents and Chickens

Our niece had her birthday party yesterday at the park, she had a great day. How gorgeous is the present we made for her. Teagan has her own business it's called T-dye for Clothing. All of the clothes are are so beautiful. She does such a great job.

Rosie & Dad

This is my hubby Garry with the new addition to our family. Her name is Rosie, she is so big and black and beautiful. When we got her the other day she fitted in real well with the other chickens then that afternoon when I was upstairs and was busy doing some sewing while hubby picked up Jett, she broke out through the back of the hen house, Jett and I went door knocking in the street behind us but no one had seen her so we thought she was gone, then 9.15pm that night a lovely lady turned up saying she had Rosie in their house, thankyou was all I could say I couldn't believe we found her. I rushed to her place and got her, she was shaken but fine. She was very happy to get home with the others and has been perfect since. Now just waiting for some of her yummy eggs.

Week 11 of 2010

Sewing this week - I bought this material from the Op Shop it was a skirt and I loved the material, I had been planning to make a lunchpod with it, but I wanted to see it more often because the green flowers are very uplifting to me. So I made a day bag for myself.

Baking this week: Lots of baking this week running out of everything but starting with cookies (yum) some with sprinkles, some with jam and others with choc chips. Just trying to keep cookies going for a whole week was hard. But baking them are easy. I got this recipe from Rhonda at Down to Earth.
500g butter
1 can condensed milk 390 gms
1 cup sugar
5 cups SR flour
jam, choc chips, sprinkles etc
mix, shape and bake for 10mins in 180 oven. Done.

Desert this week - Cooler weather means hot apple pie.
1 large can of apples
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup sultanas
2 tbls lemon juice
2 sheets puff pastry
Mix ingredients, spray pie dish with spray oil, place sheet of pastry, place apple mixture in, top with pastry, brush with egg and pop in 180 oven for 30 mins. Serve with whipped cream or/and ice-cream.

Garden this week - Our seed potatoes arrived in the post this week. we are very excited - first timers with growing potatoes.

Knitting this week - Still going on Jett's animal this week, I've decided it will be a monkey!!

Playing the Recorder

My girlfriend rang me with a request...her 2 daughters Tahlia aged 10 and Jade aged 8 had just started learning to play the recorder at school and they wanted me to make some cool recorder covers, so this is what I came up with. They live on Tamborine Mountain so I thought the cow pattern suited and they are very girly girls so the hot pink with silver sparkles was so them. I am super pleased at how they turned out.

Week 10 of 2010

Gardening this week: Picked the last of the lettuces, getting garden ready for next lot.

Baked this week: With the weather cooling down perfect time for homemade hot apple crumble.

Bought this week: It's my girlfriends birthday in a couple of weeks, I found this gorgeous material to make her an apron & a lunchpod.

Found this week: These salt & pepper shakers are too cute from the Op Shop, my grandparents had similar ones when I was little.

Knitting this week: My son is having a teddy bears picnic at his kindy next week, I am trying to knit him some type of animal (I'll work it out as I go along) as he doesn't have a favorite teddy.

Reading this week: Don Burke's Organic - we are drawing up our Autumn/Winter garden beds with this book and the self sufficient-ish bible helping us.

Monsters

My niece's 4th birthday is coming up in a couple of weeks & I have just finished one of her presents. I got the pattern out of the Homesewn magazine, I used a recycled pink Supre bag of my daughters for the body because I love the feel of that material plus it's a bit easier to wash & old recycled buttons. I love this little monster so much I want to keep her for myself.
My daughter just got a new phone yesterday & it came in a nice green bag, I think that will be the colour of our next little monster... maybe for Jett for one of his easter presents.

Darlings

This picture sums up their relationship

Trouble is all I can say.

Tablecloth & Placemats

We haven't had a dining table in the dining room since 2 christmas's ago bacause I wanted chrintmas on the back verandah so I took the rectangular dining table out there for christmas & everyone loved it so much that it stayed out there. I put a lounge in the dining room instead. The weather has been quite rainy of late so I pulled upstairs an old round pine dining table. It's a little worse for ware after been stored underneath the house for so long. It needed a tablecloth & placemats for it but I wasn't wanting to buy them. I found an old white sheet in the linen cupboard & cut it into big squares & sewed them together with green zigzag stitch
I had one material placemat that I had bought a long time ago for 50cents at the op shop because I liked the pattern & was waiting for something to make with it. I unpicked it to make two then cut them in half to make 4 then backed them with some of the white sheet. Voila. A new tablecloth & 4 placemats.
They are my homegrown tomatoes & passionfruits in the bowl on the table by the way.

I want to ride my Bicycle

Check out my new bike!!! Jett & I will have lots of long fun rides on this.

How cool is the childs seat that folds down to a bag holder as well. It's an old late 70's early 80's Malvern Star. I found it at an old second hand shop, got it for $70.00 bargain, I love it.
